Can a Knitting Class Be Life-Changing?
One of my recent students called my Secrets of Splicing class “life-changing.” Isn’t that just awesome? I don’t think I’ve ever heard something I’ve done called “life-changing” before. And even though I know she meant “It changed my knitting life,” and not, “It ended world hunger,” I can’t tell you how much I loved hearing it. (Since that class has been so warmly received, I’ll be teaching it again next month; check the sidebar or visit my Classes page for details.)
Everything I’m about as a teacher and a designer is about helping folks get to the next level in their knitting in ways that are intuitive and approachable. It doesn’t matter if that next level is something as complex as ladderback jacquard or as straightforward as learning a dozen new ways to join yarn: I love helping knitters get there and the best part of class for me is when someone exclaims, “Oh, that’s not as hard as I thought it was going to be!”
That’s one of the reasons just about every one of my includes something different, intriguing, or new. I approach designing both from the perspective of what I want to knit, and of what I want to teach.
My most recent pattern, Shattered Shale, introduces a two-color woven slip stitch that I haven’t seen done anywhere else in alternating colors. And I worked out a special (but easy!) technique for the ends of the rounds to make it seamless. (Ravelry shop — Payhip shop)
I’m dropping a new pattern tomorrow, Powderbowl, which is fun, easier than it looks, and includes the long-tail cast-on in both knits and purls… because why not learn something new and interesting while you go? (Don’t worry, it’s also got an option to skip that if you’re not feeling brave.)

If you are in the mood to expand your skills, take a look at my upcoming classes. I’ll be teaching both Intro to Brioche and Brioche Increases and Decreases tomorrow at Knit City Virtual (YES, you can take both if you’re brand-new to brioche; I’ll make sure you acquire all the skills in the first class to take you into the second). I’ll also be teaching Cooler Cast-Ons, Better Bind-Offs and Ladderback Jacquard at Peacetree’s virtual weekend event, plus I’m introducing a new class on how to make Thrummed Mittens!
I’m told all of these classes still have room as of right now.
