Tips & Tricks for Devious Knitters: Dealing With Dark Yarn
Have you ever knit with black (or very dark) yarn?
I have, numerous times. I can’t seem to help it. I knit this beautiful Almond Street Shawl a couple of years ago, and the main color was navy blue.

Fortunately, it was a pretty simple pattern and I didn’t have to find or correct any mistakes.
Recently, though, I’ve been swatching a new pattern and one of the colors is black. Because I’m trying different things as I go and designing on the fly, I do occasionally need to be able to count stitches or re-do things. Even in good light, this can be challenging.
Fortunately, I remembered a tip I picked up along the way… I can hold up my knitting in front of a window (or any light source) when I need to see things more clearly.
Here for your viewing pleasure is the same swatch on a white cloth in full daylight, and in front of my window. As you can see, there’s quite a difference!
