Fiberworld 2020

I suppose this is all the more appropriate to share after yesterday’s post; in the wake of so many cancellations of fiber festivals and knitting events, there is a new event happening virtually August 19-23: Fiberworld 2020.

This festival is a child of the pandemic; it was conceived after so many events were cancelled in March and it was designed to be forever virtual.

The creative mind behind the whole thing is Kel over at A Hundred Ravens, who, it turns out, in addition to owning a yarn business is also a professor of video game design. From the marriage of these two disparate interests has been born a fiber and lifestyle festival that aims to more closely replicate the experience of being there in person.

Each vendor’s booth will have its own embedded video channel so they can help you shop or host special events and demos. The vendors’ pages have the feel of being in a show booth. There’s even a virtual map of the “show floor.”

There will be demos, and a scavenger hunt, and lots of social events and general hanging-out in the video rooms. There are going to be talks by Franklin Habit, Nacinimod Deodee, and Mary Ann Mohanraj. There will probably be mischief of some sort or another, because whenever knitters gather, there seems to be mischief of the most engaging sort. (Just to be clear: I am not in charge of the mischief. Others whose creativity exceeds my own in this arena will, I am convinced, do what is necessary.)

There will be classes on knitting, crochet, beading, spinning, needlepoint, and more. Kate Atherley will be teaching, and so will I.

These are the classes I’ll be teaching; you can register here.
