Nearly Knitting
I’ve been spending all my time lately on knitting-related things, but not really doing any knitting — or at least, not knitting that feels like knitting.
I’m teaching eight classes at the debut Fiberworld event this week (Thursday through Sunday) and that’s meant I’m doing making a lot of teaching swatches. So that’s technically knitting, but it’s not the kind of knitting that produces anything satisfying, nor the kind you can just relax into.
And I’m doing an awful lot of writing about knitting, putting together presentations and handouts for my students, which is important and satisfying, but it’s definitely not knitting.
I’ve done some great learning about knitting, too, as I took a few classes this weekend at the virtual Vogue Knitting Live. I learned some cool textured knitting tricks and a new way to knit negative space… and I swatched those techniques, but it didn’t really scratch the knitting itch.
The closest I’ve gotten to real knitting is the swatching and test-knitting I’m doing for a secret pattern I’m writing. The project will be featured in an upcoming knitalong I’ll be doing in partnership with Morehouse Farm, and while I’m not ready to show you the project yet, here’s some of the deliciously soft yarn that it’s going to use. I just love the colors of Morehouse’s yarns, and I’ll be taking full advantage of their vivid array in this project. You know I love color!
The final non-knitting thing I’ve been doing is planning a PAJAMA PARTY for Saturday night at Fiberworld. It’s going to be in one of the official Lounges, so anyone with their $15 general admission ticket to the show can take part. No RSVPs required, but you are welcome to bring your knitting horror stories to share!
