On the Road Again (Not Really)
I suppose it is one of the delicious absurdities of life during a pandemic that although I have been physically going nowhere, my weekends have been jam-packed with fiber-related activity, as more and more events are moving online. The accessibility of online events means that I’m attending many more of them than I would otherwise be able to achieve. That’s good from a knitting perspective, but I think the rest of my family is starting to wonder when they’ll see me again.
I’ll be attending Rhinebeck this year for the first time ever, and if things weren’t weird enough, my first Rhinebeck experience will be as a teacher.
I’ve had a great deal of appreciation for the availability of these online festivals. Over the past months I’ve been able to make many new connections, learn some new techniques, discover new teachers and bloggers, connect with new vendors, and take my teaching out to new students I wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to reach.
While there are some limitations to teaching virtually, I think there are actually some nice benefits, as well. Given the right hardware and software, everyone can see my hands pretty well when I’m demonstrating. And while in some ways it doesn’t feel as connected as being there in person, in other ways it does.
I’ll be teaching a goodly number of classes at Rhinebeck, including one of my absolute favorites — Tips and Tricks for Next-Level Knitting — plus a brand-new Intermediate Mosaic class that explores the differences in mosaic charting and how to combine stitch patterns into your mosaic colorwork.
The festival runs October 15-18, and my full slate of classes is below. You can register on Rhinebeck’s workshop page. Most of my classes are suitable for the Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Knitter, but if you have questions, just pop them into the Comments section. You read longer descriptions on my Classes page.
