Tips and Tricks for Devious Knitters: Video Tutorials
Did you know that I have a series of free video tutorials available here on my website and on my YouTube channel? They cover a variety of subjects from a better way to perform Judy’s Magic Cast On or cinch a gusset hole to special techniques used in some of my patterns like Roosamine or grafting the ends of I-cord together — because any time I publish a pattern with an unusual technique, I want to give you the opportunity to see how it’s done.
The videos are available to everyone, and the techniques are things you’ll find useful in all kinds of applications, so I hope you’ll have a look even if you’re not knitting one of my patterns right now!
While you’re over on my YouTube Channel, you might also enjoy watching some of my past episodes of Would Knit Be Fun, my video podcast, on which I interview a different guest each episode. Guests have ranged from folks you’ll recognize, like Patty Lyons and Gaye Glasspie, to folks who might be new to you (but who are no less fascinating) like Austin Rivers.
I’m taking a little break from recording these at the moment while I do some traveling to teach, but I’ll be back with new episodes soon. In the meantime, I’d love to hear who you want to hear from. You can always leave suggestions in the comments.
Speaking of traveling to teach… I have room in a few of my classes next week at Interweave YarnFest in Loveland, Colorado and if you’re going to be there, I would love to get to meet you in person! I’ll be teaching how to work Toe-up Socks Without a Pattern, Latvian and Estonian Braids, and a few other fun and interesting techniques. Here are the classes that still have openings (Online registration ends today but onsite registration continues after that):

After that, I’ll be teaching Two-Color Brioche in the Round at the Hippy Strings Knitting Retreat in Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada May 6-8. I’m not sure if they have any space left there, but that link should tell you.
Virtual Classes
A few students have asked me whether I’ll continue teaching virtually, now that in-person events have begun to resume. Never fear! Virtual teaching will always be part of my game plan. I’ve really come to appreciate how teaching over Zoom has allowed me to meet and connect with so many of you from all over the globe, and I’m not going to give that up!
I have several virtual classes on the schedule right now, and I’m starting to plan out my summer and fall class schedule which will include additional opportunities for learning together online.
Beginning Brioche: Two-Color Brioche in the Round · Friday April 29
Unlock the secrets of squishy, captivating brioche knitting! Working brioche in the round is easier than flat, and two colors are easier to keep track of than one.
Fixing a World of Woes with Duplicate Stitch · Saturday Apri 30
Mis-crossed a cable? Knit the wrong color stitch? Purled where you should have knit? The versatile duplicate stitch rides to the rescue! Easier than laddering down, so much quicker than ripping out to re-knit, duplicate stitch can fix a whole world of knitting woes
Basic Knit Fixes · Friday May 13
No matter how much you love to knit, there are those “Uh-oh, something went wrong!” moments. Never fear, almost every knitting problem can be fixed!
Never Kitchener · Saturday May 14
If you find the Kitchener stitch intimidating or difficult to remember, I’ve got options for you! There are many other ways to close off or graft your knits.
Finally… if you’re still reading this far, I’d like to ask your help with something. As I’m planning out those virtual classes for the summer and fall, I’d like to make sure I’m offering the classes you are the most interested in, and offering them at times you can attend. If you have a few minutes to participate in this quick survey, you’ll be helping me customize my class offerings to best suit your interest and availability.
Thank you!
