12 Weeks of Gifting, Week 2: Wanderly

a pair of knit socks in grey and red, with small cables and contrasting color heels and toes

This week’s discounted pattern is another sock pattern, Wanderly. These socks, though, are made from sport-weight yarn, so they knit up quickly into the cushiest hiking socks ever. They are the perfect socks for all your loved ones’ winter activities.

There are a few things about this pattern that make it particularly easy to knit. First, the charming little cables aren’t actually cables; they’re twists, and they’re fast and easy to work. By halfway up the foot you’ll be pro at them.

Second, this sock features afterthought heels, and the pattern walks you through the whole process (but if you want some hand holding, go ahead and sign up for my Better Afterthought Heels class on Nov 5, and you will be totally set).

Third, they’re knit toe-up, which makes them easier to size *and* allows you to keep on knitting every last bit of yarn if you’d like to.

Fourth, they have the best, most clever stretchy bind-off. You’ll want to use it for all your sock tops from now on.

Finally, the pattern includes both standard sizing *and* instructions for customizing to tweener-size feet. So no matter if your recipient is a women’s size 5 or a men’s 14, you’ll have them covered.

The yarn I used is Morehouse Farm Gator, a sport weight yarn spun with extra twist for strength and elasticity. It comes in a variety of brights and neutrals that are so much fun to pair — I can’t wait to see what combinations you put together!

The pattern is available for 20% off at both my Ravelry and Payhip shops using the same code: WANDER20.
