Which Hat? Which Yarn?
I know, it’s so hard to choose! I always love to give you a choice, so I’ve chosen two cool hat patterns for our Fall KAL, and you get to pick which one you want to do.
Classic stranding or vertical stranding? Steven’s Creek (Ravelry link) is a classically stranded colorwork hat using two contrasting colors of DK-weight yarn. The original was knit with Plymouth Yarn’s DK Merino Superwash, but just about any smooth DK-weight yarn in solid or semisolid/tonal colorways will do. Shot in the Dark, on the other hand, is a fun exploration of vertical stranding (with the option to switch out to ladderback jacquard for those of you who love that). Shot in the Dark (Ravelry link) was originally knit in Morehouse Farm Merino’s Glenleigh Worsted, and would also look terrific in Morehouse’s 3-Strand Worsted, which has approximately umpteen different color combinations.
But those are far from your only yarn choices! You might have enough of some leftovers sitting around the house: 100 yards of each color will be enough for Steven’s Creek, while Shot in the Dark will work with 100 yards of the main color and about 30 yards of contrast color.
Or maybe you want to check out some hand-dyed yarn from my friend Kim McBrien Evans over at Indigodragonfly. She’s offering a 10% discount on any of her yarns until November 4 with discount code DEVIOUS10, and you bet she’s got some luscious yarn bases and delicious colors to play with. (Mergoat Worsted, for example, is a favorite of mine, and Kiwifloofen DK is a must-try).
If you’re still on the fence, bring your options to the cast-on party Sunday and we’ll help you settle on a choice. The cast-on party kicks off at a Kickoff Sunday, Oct 15 12-2pm Pacific time.
And one more thing… a little update to the time of the Wrap Party, which is now an hour earlier than I originally announced. It’ll take place Saturday, Nov 4 11am-1pm Pacific time. I had to move that up a bit so I’ll have time to get to a family event later that day.
If you’re looking for all the details on the KAL, go visit my earlier post, which has links to all the patterns, the Zoom parties, and the FB and Ravelry groups where we can post about our projects.
Thanks for joining in — I’m excited!
